I can count on one hand the number of people I know personally that are fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I guess I like them so much because they were once a new team, the underdogs. I also started to watch the team from the start and saw them work hard to build a great franchise from the bottom up. Of course we only have a handful of wins in the past 3 seasons to brag about!
If you have listened to Jacksonville Jaguar fans, they yell out “Duvall” during the games. Many people hear this and think we are saying “the ball” but that isn’t’ so! You may be asking who Duvall is… and the answer is that it isn’t a person. Instead, it is the name of the county that Jacksonville is located in.
To be fair, most NFL teams have a very strong fan base that starts in their own backyard. Jacksonville actually has the 2nd largest population turnover annually (only being Washington D.C.). Therefore, there is always a high volume of people moving in and out of this area.
We seem to do OK when our players get into trouble.. and there have been numerous incidents with drugs, alcohol, and even some domestic violence. However, when you have mascot troubles you quickly realize that your football team is on that fine line between professionals and delinquency!
The Jacksonville Jaguars fans were cheering when our mascot got into a scuffle on the sidelines with some fans from an opposing team. While the mascot claimed it was all in good fun, the other team didn’t think so.
Recently, in a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, our mascot held up a Terrible Towel. In the other hand, a sign that said “ Towels Carry Ebola”. Sure, it as a dig at the other team but with the entire Nation in a panic about Ebola it certainly wasn’t done in good taste!
“Some of the seats in the stadium recently got an upgrade. 9,500 seats were removed from the stadium at the North end zone. They were replaced with a party deck that includes 2 pools and 16 cabanas. Now how many fans in the NFL can say that is part of their game day experience?”
EverBank Field is where the Jacksonville Jaguars play their home games. It seats close to 77,000 people. It was also the location of the 2005 Super Bowl XXXIX. Ticket sales often depend on who the opponent is. There are some diehard fans though with season tickets. This is one of the NFL teams that still offers them for a price that the average consumer is able to afford.

Before or home games, we often cook up various types of seafood and meat in the parking lot. That is why the entire parking lot can smell like fish as you walk through it. Those that aren’t native to the area may be plugging their noses as they make their way to the stadium.
It is amazing though how many bandwagon fans the Jacksonville Jaguars seem to get when they are on a winning streak! I start to see their jerseys all over the place but I just shake my head and keep on going. Plenty of fans have also shown up with the introduction of Zane Beadles. He is an amazing football player. For those of you not familiar with him, he was released from the Denver Broncos last year.
In addition to being a great football player, he is quite the role model. He continues to bring awareness to children’s cancer needs and to help with an array of community fundraisers and activities. He is a big guy, with an even bigger heart. He already had a huge following in Denver, and many of his fans have followed him to his new team.
