In 2011, Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs was once again Ranked No. 1 as the best place to tailgate in the NFL by Bleacher Report
Voted year after year as the best tailgating city in the Universe, Kansas City Chief Fans do tailgating better than anyone, anywhere! The intoxicating aroma of classic Kansas City barbecue permeating through an endless fleet of RVs hours before kickoff makes Arrowhead Stadium the holy land of tailgating.
Kansas City loves football–and with one of the loudest football stadiums anywhere I get goosebumps just thinking about waiting in line to fire up the grill and looking at the blue-smoke hanging in the sky over Arrowhead. The people, the atmosphere, the food, and even the stadium design all have a hand in making this tailgating experience unique, and an unforgettable party!!!
Chief’s fans are out of control when it comes to tailgating. Some arrive 48 hours prior to the game. By 9 a.m., Sunday morning, the smokers are lit and enveloping the sky with a charcoal haze. The Kansas City Chiefs enjoy playing to the ‘Barbeque Capital of the World’! To have eaten ribs or chops here is to have participated in a great time in American culinary history. Aside from many cans of beer and the occasional “Octa-Bong” you’ll likely see, smell, and taste Brisket, ribs, chicken and a pig on a spit! Barbecue, Barbecue, and mo’ Barbecue! With loads of space and a true community feel, the aroma of barbecue is thicker in the parking lot than it is in any restaurant. Stroll around for 30 minutes and, two days later, your pets will still be mistaking you for a lamb chop.

The ‘Sea of Red’ is definitely something that will be experienced during a visit to Arrowhead Stadium. This refers to the loudest fans in the NFL, and the ‘Sea of Red’ is their nickname. With the 4th largest capacity in the NFL, the stadium seats over 78,000 people! The building is capable of making the already high-pitched decibels even louder at Arrowhead Stadium. If you have sensitive ears, be sure to bring some earplugs with you! The long hours of tailgating also make it worthwhile to go see a game at the Arrowhead Stadium, because of the fun atmosphere. You haven’t lived until you’ve participated in a Tomahawk Chant amidst a sea of red at Arrowhead Stadium.
For those that haven’t been to Arrowhead Stadium on game day, They’ve got Super Fans, and one thing Kansas City does really well when it comes to tailgating is coming up with the ultimate tailgate vehicles. If you’ve been to Arrowhead, you’ve seen them – The cars and vans that are completely decked out just for the Chiefs games. Flags, decals and even jerseys deck out these cars.
Games are more of an all-day experience rather than just cheering on the Chiefs for three hours.
Fans gather after the game to continue tailgating win or lose. Any leftover food from the pre-game tailgate is saved for after the game to be consumed. Fans can still smell the grills being fired up long after the final whistle is blown. Breaking out the Boulevard beer is also an after-game tradition.
