I have been an Arizona Cardinals fan since they moved here from St. Louis in 1988. I guess the fact that we were both new to the Arizona territory made it enticing. I was blown away that so many Arizona locals were actually Dallas Cowboys fans. It has taken more than 2 decades, but there finally seems to be more Cardinals fans here now than Cowboys fans.
I love the fact that the Arizona Cardinals have a lengthy history. They were established in 1898, making them the oldest NFL team that has been continually in operation. I love seeing some of the older fans at the games. They can tell the best stories too about the early games and players.
Losing End of the Stick
Many have often wondered WHY Arizona Cardinals fans stick around. I guess you can say in many ways we like to root for the underdog! We also like the cheaper cost of the seats due to the fact that our team doesn’t have the best overall record haha.
In fact, in 2012, we became the first NFL team to lose 700 games! While our team has won two championship games, that was before the Super Bowl was introduced. Just think about the history that will be made for me and all the other fans when we finally do get that Super Bowl win!
University of Phoenix Stadium
Since 2006, the Arizona Cardinals have played their home games at the University of Phoenix Stadium. This venue has just over 78,000 seats. There are often plenty of empty seats there due to the drought in our past seasons. However, for the past couple of years, the stadium has been sold out for most games, so things are really looking up.
The 2014 – 2015 season has proven to be one of the best in the history of the Arizona Cardinals. Those of us that have been fans forever are really enjoying it. Yet it can be a bit of an annoyance when everyone is trying to be a fan due to how well they are doing.
All Arizona Cardinals fans would love to see our team go to the Super Bowl in any given year. However, this year is especially encouraging for us. Not only do we have a great record, but the Super Bowl will be held in our stadium! A fan can’t ask for more than that! If this plays out, the Cardinals would be the first NFL team to get to play in a Super Bowl in their home town. Glendale, Arizona is certainly hoping that is how it all plays out!
